Hart Leisure Centre Swimmers’ Charity Fund Raising Success
FLEET people who took part in Swimathon 2009, the world’s largest fundraising swim at Hart Leisure Centre raised £3166 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
Hart Leisure Centre was one of more than 500 pools nationwide which contributed to Swimathon’s 2009 fundraising total of almost £1.5million. The much needed funds will help ensure terminally ill patients receive the best possible end-of-life care free of charge.
Gillian Stoney, Poolside Manager from Hart Leisure Centre said: “We are delighted that so many people in Fleet took part and we are thrilled by how much money was raised. “It was the first time that we had run Swimathon. It was a really fun event to organise and it brought out a fantastic community spirit at the pool. We are looking forward to being part of Swimathon next year and hope for an even bigger turnout!”
Cllr Sara Kinnell, Hart’s Cabinet member for Leisure and Recreation commented: “This is a marvellous result and shows just how generous our customers are.”
