Free Swimming –New Deal
HART District Council is to implement a new scheme of reduced cost swimming for the under 17s and over 60s.
This follows the removal of the Government funded free swimming scheme which ends on July 31.
To enable younger and older residents to still have access to low cost swimming Hart is introducing a deal for August and September. For just £24 all those previously registered for free swimming can enjoy unlimited swimming within the allocated casual swimming programme.
Hart’s Head of Leisure, Carl Westby said the measure had been introduced as a quick response to the Government decision.
He added:” Staff are working on a longer term approach to the problem but we wanted to ensure that both children and the elderly had access to low cost swimming over the summer holidays.”
Cllr Sara Kinnell, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Recreation, said the council was keen to play its part in encouraging exercise and providing junior activity during the summer holidays.
“We know that parents look for ways of keeping their children occupied over the summer and that many of our older members enjoy the socialising as much as the swimming.
“We don’t want the health benefits of the existing scheme to be lost or for anyone to lose their interest in swimming and that’s why we are offering this affordable alternative.”
Details will be available at www.hart.gov.uk/leisure by the end of this week.
