Hart Salutes Its Unsung Heroes
THE Chairman of Hart District Council, Cllr Sharyn Wheale and Hart Voluntary Action this week announce a new award scheme to recognise the large numbers of people who give up their time for voluntary work in the district.
The Hart Volunteer Recognition Awards will reach their culmination on April 15 next year at a ceremony in Fleet.
There will be awards in seven different categories and Cllr Wheale will select from the short list both an individual and an organisation whose contributions have been particularly outstanding and deserving of a special award of Volunteer and Organisation of the Year.
She says: “This is a way of giving recognition to thousands of volunteers in Hart who do such essential work in so many different fields.
“During my years a councillor I have always been impressed by the essential work done by volunteers. They are truly the backbone of the Hart community.”
The seven categories cover the community, care in the community, environmental protection and enhancement, sports and recreation. youth programmes, arts heritage and cultural awareness and Under 21s. Both individuals and organisations can be nominated for more than one category.
Members of the public and voluntary organisations are being invited to make nominations. To find out more ring Hart Voluntary Action on 01252 815652 or email info@hartvolaction.org.uk
