South Warnborough’s Stonehenge
TWO new climbing stones in the South Warnborough village playground were formally opened by Hart councillor John Kennett (pictured) who climbed to the top and then threw Mars bars to be caught by the children below.
The boys and girls then climbed the rocks themselves before tucking into refreshments provided by South Warnborough Parish Council.
The new boulders were part of a scheme benefiting villages across the district as well as Oakley Park in Fleet. A Big Lottery grant of £200,000 was made to Hart in partnership with parish councils and the Friends of Oakley Park.
Hart’s Head of Leisure and Environmental Promotion is co-ordinating the programme, which also provided a ‘zip wire’ in the playground at Long Sutton and other speciality playground items across the district.
Cllr Kennett commented: “This programme aims to engage older children who may feel that swings and slides are a bit too easy to play on. Each parish chooses what they think will best suit their particular playground and South Warnborough chose something which will stretch its boys and girls.”
