New trees for old cans
Date: 4 December 2006
Thanks to the efforts of Hart District’s army of recyclers the Council’s tree planting programme has received a boost.
Under a pledge made by AluPro, the aluminium production and recycling organisation, to donate a tree for every 66 tonnes valuable, lightweight aluminium collected, Hart is to receive 125 saplings to plant in the district.
Commenting on the donation, Hart’s Grounds Management Officer, Matthew Lank said:
“These trees will come in handy for our replanting on Zebon Copse Estate in Church Crookham. If there are spare trees left over from this task they can be planted elsewhere in the district.”
AluPro’s pledge, made to all Hampshire local authorities, will see a total of 1,625 new trees donated to county authorities in exchange for 120,000 tonnes of aluminium collected.
A further 183 saplings will be added to AluPros African tree planting programme.
