"Build a Bike" Trio Pedal Away With Them
THREE youngsters who successfully completed the first six week course in the Safer Hart Bike Repair Scheme have been presented with their newly refurbished machines.
They are: Jamie Burgess (12) of Rectory Road, Hook; Nathan Furnell (14) of Turgis Road, Fleet and 13-year-old Ross Clynes,of Whites Close, Hook.
During the course in Fleet the boys were taught how to strip, rebuild and maintain a bicycle. The bikes were donated by Hampshire Police and members of the public while tuition came from Graham Holder of Tregah Bikes.
In addition to the bike the trio were presented with a certificate of achievement, a cycling proficiency certificate, a helmet and maintenance equipment.
Said David Lipscombe, Community Safety Officer for Hart Council: “It’s great to see these kids coming along week after week and learning some new practical skills.”
Cllr Nippy Singh, Hart portfolio holder for Partnerships, said: “This has given these youngsters a fantastic opportunity to learn valuable life skills and ride away cycles that they have restored –teaching them a sense of pride, achievement and ownership.”
The next course is due to start in August. For more information call the Safer Hart Partnership on 01252 774476.
