Recycling hits a new high
HART District Council’s recycling figures set a new record in November when they hit 41.7 per cent.
Revealing the news Cllr David Simpson, the environment portfolio holder, said that Sarah Incher, Hart’s Waste and Recycling Manager and her staff had worked tremendously hard to achieve this.
He also reported that applications for the Council’s green waste service had now outstripped capacity –with 40 in one week alone! A waiting list is now being established while Hart investigates how to find and fund an additional collection vehicle.
Toilets to move
Public toilets in the Victoria Road, Fleet car park will close from the beginning of January and people will be directed to those in the nearby Harlington Centre.
Cllr Simpson said the Harlington Centre toilets were less likely to be vandalised and were now fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act. They would also be open four hours longer (8am to 10pm).
Odiham
After a wave of vandalism the gents’ toilets are to remain closed Cllr Simpson told local member Cllr Stephen Gorys. The ladies’ are still open.
Cllr Simpson said the toilets had been badly vandalised to the tune of £2000 earlier in the autumn with cisterns ripped from the walls. The district’s budget for repairing vandalised toilets had been depleted.
“The gents’ will remain closed until I have had discussions with the portfolio holder for finance about any possible extra cash to fund the destructive hobby of the vandals in Hart district,” he added.
