Online Resources
The Oneplace website is designed to show how local public services are performing in England, if they provide value for money and where they could improve. The Audit Commission and other inspectorates are working together to provide an independent overview of the quality of life in our area. You can also discover how well other local public organisations work together to meet local needs.
The Improvement & Development Agency (I&DeA) Communities of practice provides a platform for sharing ideas and good practice across a huge range of topic areas covering most areas of local government operations. Registration on the site is free.
ESD-Toolkit (ESD=Electronic Service Delivery) was first used to develop the Local Government Service List (LGSL) as part of the Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) agenda from a few years back. The site provides a comprehensive "tree" view of local government services with detailed information about linked National Indicators and expert contacts in other authorities. ESD Toolkit also provides access to the Experian Customer Insight data with a mapping tool which can show detail to household level. It also has up to date Ethnicity monitoring data (also provided by Experian) which may be useful for targetting services towards hard to reach ethnic minority groups. Registration is open to all in local government and is free. Hart is a subscribing authority and gains access to a greater range of data.
The Audit Commission Value for Money tool allows simple cost and performance benchmarking with selected groups of other local authorities. Based on published performance data and financial returns (Revenue Account returns at present but will be Revenue Outturn returns from 2010) there are a selection of pre-formed reports or you can generate your own. The Audit Commission use this tool as part of their Value for Money assessments on local councils.
The Places Analysis Tool provides access to published National Indicator results, and facilitates local benchmarking and viewing of results from other areas. This tool is designed to assist in the analysis of Local Authorities with respect to the Local Area Agreement (LAA) Performance Monitoring Framework.
