Protected Trees
Trees may be protected under planning controls. These may include tree preservation orders, conservation areas and planning conditions. If a tree is protected, the Council must be notified of any proposals to carry out works that may affect it.
Trees enhance the countryside, provide a habitat for wildlife, improve the quality of our built environment and can mitigate some of the undesirable impact of development and activities. The main reason for protecting trees is to ensure that their contribution to the environment remains as an amenity to the public for future generations to enjoy. All those who live in or visit Hart District benefit from the contribution of its significant tree population to the quality of the local environment. Hart Council is committed to preserving trees within the District wherever possible, We also recognise that trees can cause problems, that they have finite lives, and that there may be sound reasons for surgery or removal.
