County/Regional Plans - Minerals & Waste Local Plan
The Minerals & Waste Local Plan is produced by Hampshire County Council. It is Hampshire's strategy for the control of minerals and waste development and identifies preferred sites to provide for the minerals and waste development requirements.
Hampshire has a significant source of sand and gravel, chalk and clay. Also, oil and gas are produced in Hampshire as energy sources and industrial raw materials.
Most of Hampshire's waste is currently disposed of by landfilling (tipping). Adequate provision must be made for the disposal of that waste which is not recycled or recovered. It is fundamental to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the County that the need for waste disposal is met in a safe and efficient manner.
The plan was adopted in 1998 and is currently being reviewed. It can be viewed on Hampshire County Council's website at:
The Plan will be replaced by The Hampshire Minerals and Waste Development Framework which will cover the period to 2020
