The Fleet Town Centre Urban Design Study: Have Your Say
The aim of the Fleet Town Centre Urban Design study is to provide a vision, based upon good urban design, for the future of Fleet Town Centre over the next 20 years. It is intended that the final version of the Study, following consultations, will be adopted by the Council as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and will have a significant influence on planning decisions.
The Vision
The Council’s vision for Fleet Town Ccentre is to create a centre that is:
- A recognisable and distinctive place to live, work and shop with a diverse range of good quality shops, services, employment and cultural activities.
- A thriving place attractive to visitors who want to do more than just pass through on their way to somewhere else.
- A place where public spaces are attractive, safe and accessible to everyone.
- Well designed and where new development encourages a sense of civic pride.
- A prosperous area for local businesses which attracts new commercial investment.
The Process
We have completed an analysis of the town centre, looking at its strengths and weaknesses, its opportunities and threats, and also the history of the town and its communities. The Fleet Town Centre Analysis Report sets out the findings of this work and has been produced, with an associated leaflet / questionnaire, to stimulate local debate and invite comments and ideas.
After we have considered responses to the issues set out in this report and the associated questionnaire, we will produce a draft SPD, setting out our preferred options and policies. A further formal consultation will then seek the views of local people and key stakeholders before a final draft SPD is recommended for adoption by the Council.
