Landscape and the Natural Environment
The District of Hart covers an area of approximately 83 square miles in the north-east corner of Hampshire. It is predominantly rural in character embracing a wide variety of landscapes and large areas of unspoilt countryside. Hart District shares boundaries with Berkshire in the north and Surrey to the south-east. The low-lying valley of the Blackwater Valley is to the north, whilst the open chalk hills of the North Downs are to the south. Forests and heaths are to the east, with wooded farmland to the west. Agriculture over the centuries has shaped and formed the countryside, but there are still areas untouched and remain a haven for wild life and plants.
