Advice Before Making Applications
Pre-Application Protocol
We welcome and encourage discussions before you submit your application. The nature of these discussions is likely to be different depending on the complexity of the development proposed.
Consequently the Council here sets out protocols for dealing with the three most common types of applications by following the links.
- Householder development
- Minor developments (for up to 5 dwellings or an equivalent amount of commercial floorspace)
- Major developments
The Council does not charge for pre-application discussions on householder developments, but makes a charge for discussions relating to both minor and major developments. Details of these can be found here. The provision of this service does not create a contractual relationship with the Council.
You should be aware that in all cases that while officers will endeavour to give accurate and impartial advice the advice given at this pre-application stage has to be informal and without prejudice to the formal consideration of the application by the Council, which will take place following consultation with statutory bodies and other interested parties.
Details of the information that needs to be submitted with applications can be found here.
