Making Comments on a Planning Application
Applications are publicised by the Council informing any neighbours with a direct boundary and publicising a weekly list of planning applications and also asking applicants to display a site notice. Neighbours normally receive 21 days to comment on the proposal.
If required the planning application will be advertised by a site notice, press advert or both.
If you would like to examine the applications and other submitted documents, you can do so online on the UK Planning website. The plans are also available for inspection at the Civic Offices.
Representations on planning applications can be made online by clicking on 'add comments/objections' within the relevant case file on UK Planning. You should focus your concerns on material planning matters - see our 'Making comments on a planning application' leaflet
Alternatively, please write to Planning Services as soon as possible and no later than the expiry time indicated in the letter. Quote the application reference number if you know it and the address of the proposed development. It is not necessary to send the same representations by more than one means of communication.
To reduce the chances of identity theft the following is suggested:
- Please omit personal information such as telephone numbers or email addresses from correspondence.
- If you wish to send in representations by email you should send them as an attachment to the email rather than in the email itself.
- The Council will take into account unsigned representations, but does require a name and a postal address.
If you wish to email your representations please send it to the Planning help desk - see 'contacts' list at the side.
If you wish to receive a copy of the decision notice please send a s.a.e. 110 x 220mm with your comments
Under the terms of the Access to Information Act 1985 the Council is required to publish any representations it receives on planning applications and they may be reported to the Council’s Planning Committee in summary form. All comments received are available for inspection by the public, applicants and Councillors. They will also be published on the Hart and UK Planning websites as part of the application. So please note the comments above about identity theft
Applications are decided either under delegated powers (determined by the Head of Planning & Environmental Regulations) or by the Planning Committee which meets monthly. click here to view committee dates. or any relevant sub committee. The agenda is available approximately one week prior to the meeting.
If a decision is to be made by the Committee then the Council operates a public participation scheme allowing, in certain circumstances, an objector, applicant or amenity society to speak at the Planning Committee.
Alternatively, you can track and view the decision online at UK Planning. The decision will also appear in the minutes of Planning Committee meetings.
In the event of a subsequent appeal your comments will be forwarded to the Planning Inspectorate but the Council will write to advise you of that in order to allow you to make further representations if you wish.
