How do I know if a collection is genuine?

House to House Collection
The Charity Collection should be detailed in the calendar (see link to the right). Legislation prescribes carrying a certificate of authority and wearing a badge for means of identification.
If people are selling goods rather than collecting money for charity and you are unsure if they are genuine or not then please call Hampshire County Council's Trading Standard Service on Lo-call number 0845 6030081 and/or look at their website for more advice.
Street Collection
1) Take down the Charity name, address and Registered Charity number from the collector, and then the Collectors name;
2) If you are able, contact the Charity concerned and check the collector is authorised to collect on their behalf;
3) Check the calendar (see link to the right) to see if a permit has been authorised for a specific date to a specific charity;
4) If you are still concerned having spoken to the Charity AND checked the calendar then please contact the Police on 0845 045 4545.
Alternatively please contact us on 01252 774496 (Mon to Fri between 0900hrs - 1700hrs).
