Tree Care
Dead, Dying and Dangerous
Hart District Council is committed to retaining trees in a safe condition for all the positive ways in which they contribute to our environment. However, our number one priority is public safety. As we are responsible for around 505 hectares of park land, commons and open space throughout the District it is important that trees owned by the Council are recorded and well managed.
Due to the large number of enquiries received each year we have developed a system for prioritising tree works, this is called 'Traffic Light Trees'
RED is essential works - undertaken within 12 weeks of a works order being created includes the following:
. removing standing dead trees.
. removing fallen trees.
. removing significant deadwood.
. health and safety.
AMBER is desirable works - undertaken within 6 months of a works order being created includes the following:
. removing less significant deadwood.
. tipping back branches in contact with property.
GREEN is classified as nonessential. The Council will not fell or prune trees solely for the following reasons:
. disruption of light structures such as footpaths and fences.
. reduced light levels.
. interference with television and/or satellite reception.
. to alleviate problems caused by seasonal and/or natural phenomena.
The Council will endeavour to try and make sure that all works are completed within their scheduled time. However, sometimes events outside of our control increase the amount of emergency work and cause delays (for example extreme weather conditions).
