What the Pest Control Service does

The Local Authority does not have a duty to treat your pest control problems. However, it does have a duty to ensure that its land is clear of pests. In addition it has a duty to ensure that other individuals keep their properties free of pests that are harmful to public health.
We will:
- provide a chargeable treatment service (free for residents on certain benefits) to domestic premises for some specified pests which present a recognised public health threat
- advise on aspects of pest control
- provide a chargeable service for any treatments in commercial premises
- investigate complaints about pests
- take formal action against offenders where other action is unsuccessful
Our Standards
We will:
- treat rats, mice, cockroaches, wasps nests and fleas for a charge; (current rates)
- respond to complaints about rats, mice, fleas and cockroaches within three working days, or immediately if it is agreed that there is imminent danger to personal safety
- advise you when you contact us of the likely treatment date for wasps nests and not exceed this by more than one working day
- ensure that all complaints, unless otherwise agreed, remain confidential
- keep you informed about the progress of the investigation
- advise you of the options available to you if we are unable to help with your enquiry
- respond within three working days of receipt of other requests for service, although for letters, which often contain more complex requests, we will respond within a maximum of ten working days
- carry out surveys to discover the underlying needs of our customers
