School Travel Plans and Safer Routes to School
What is a School Travel Plan?
A School Travel Plan (STP) is a working document which looks at how pupils, staff and visitors travel to and from school.
Travel plans aim to improve safety, encourage walking, cycling, use of public transport and car-sharing. They also encourage educational programmes relating to child travel and how this links to the environment, safety & health.
Schools have differing needs and will develop activities that focus on their own travel issues, geographic location and age of pupils.
Funding is available for the delivery of measures identified within travel plans from Hampshire County Council's Safer Routes to Schools Programme and also directly from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
Hart District Council promotes School Travel Plans in partnership with Hampshire County Council's School Travel Planning Team.
