Bogus Callers

There are a few simple things you can do to ensure a bogus caller does not catch you out.
Remember;
- Put the door chain across or check before opening the door
- Always check ID cards for official callers
- See if your utility companies operate password schemes
- For doorstep sellers, business cards are only of value if they give a variable business address and telephone number with an 01 or an 02 dial code
This advice is not just aimed at the elderly – everyone should be aware.
Distraction Burglary is ‘any crime where a falsehood, trick or distraction is used on an occupant of a dwelling to gain, or try to gain, access to the premises to commit burglary’ (Crime Reduction. 2004). Only two distraction burglaries occurred in Hart in 2003/04 one in Blackwater and the other in the Eversley and Mattingley police beat.
