Overpayments
An overpayment is an amount of benefit that has been paid, but to which there is no entitlement. This can occur when a change in circumstances is not notified in time.
When a claim is reassessed and there is an overpayment a letter will be sent to you explaining the reason for the overpayment, how it was worked out, the period it covers and how we intend to recover it.
Overpayment can be recovered either by deducting an amount from ongoing benefit or by sending an invoice.
