Within this parish are many hundreds of acres of common land with walks among heather, bracken and pine; trees and with suitable spots for picnics.

Also within the parish is a Government factory concerned with jet propulsion and the noise abatement of aircraft.

The Blackwater and Hawley Leisure Centre and Memorial Hall offer opportunities for a wide range of sporting and social activities. Hawley Lake is a popular walking, sailing and fishing area.
