What the Health & Safety Service of Environmental Health does
The aim of the Environmental Health Service is to ‘protect and enhance the health and safety of the community’ One of the areas of activity is Health and Safety. There are nearly 1,000 premises within the Hart District subject to local authority enforcement of Health & Safety legislation, where Hart will:
- advise about health and safety
- inspect all such premises for compliance with the law
- investigate reportable accidents and diseases
- take formal action against offenders where other action is unsuccessful
Our Standards
We undertake to:
- respond immediately on receipt of notifications of reportable accidents, dangerous occurrences or diseases
- respond to complaints about the standard of premises within seven working days, or immediately if it is suggested there is imminent danger, unless otherwise agreed.
- inspect premises for which we have an enforcement responsibility regularly according to the safety risks
- respond within ten working days of receipt of other letters, telephone calls or other methods of communication
- listen to your problem and explain the possible courses of action. An appropriate course will be agreed with you
- ensure that all complaints are, unless otherwise agreed, treated in confidence
- keep you informed about the progress of the investigation
- advise you of the outcome of the investigation and any action taken to resolve your request
- try to advise you of the options available to you if we’re unable to help with your enquiry
- carry out surveys to discover the underlying needs of our customers
