Rural Rate Relief
Certain types of non domestic properties in rural villages with a population below 3000 may qualify for rate relief of 50%. Businesses that qualify for this relief are sole general store, post office or food shop in the village with a rateable value of less than £7000 or sole pub or petrol station in the village with rateable value less than £10500. Billing authorities have discretion to give further relief on the remaining bill.
The local authority also has discretion to give relief on certain business properties in the rural settlement list, if the rateable value is £14000 or less and the authority is statisfied that the business is of benfit to the local community.
