Guided Walks & Activities

Hart District Council’s Countryside Service runs a variety of walks and activities throughout the year at various sites within the district. Whether you are interested in wildlife, conservation and your local countryside or maybe you just need an excuse to get outdoors, you will find something for you and your friends and family to enjoy.

All walks are weather dependent and may be altered at short notice.  Please note that the walks are due to begin at the times advertised so please arrive a couple of minutes early to avoid disappointment.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. All activities must be booked in advance.

Bird Ringing Demonstration 

Where: Hazeley Heath
When: Sunday 22nd February
 

Drop into Hazeley Heath anytime between 9.00-13.00 to meet Martin Cooper our site bird ringer and Ranger Dave. They will be based on the main path not far from the lay-by. Come and join them to learn more about bird ringing and to see our feathered friends up close.

Martin has been visiting Hazeley Heath regularly ever since the early part of 2014 and so far has ringed around 899 birds of 32 species. He has caught some unusual species including Firecrest, Spotted Flycatcher, Linnet, Lesser Whitethroat and Marsh Tit.

FREE EVENT

Dawn Chorus Walk 7am - 9am 

Where: Fleet Pond 
When: Saturday 21st March 2015

Let’s walk around the pond and listen to the different bird species wake up and start their song, from the fluty notes of the morning Blackbird to the scratchy call of the Reed Warbler.  Bring a thermos and plenty of warm clothes. 

£3.50 Per Person.

Easter Walk 10am - 2pm

Where: Fleet Pond 
When: Friday 10th April and Saturday 11th April 10am - 2pm

Join the Countryside Rangers on a self guided walk around Fleet Pond.  Meet us in the picnic area to get your Easter pack, find the clues, answer the questions, return to the picnic area and collect your Easter egg!  Suitable for all ages.  No need to book just drop in anytime between 10am – 2pm.  Dogs welcome!

£3 per person includes an Easter Egg

Wildlife Day 10 - 2pm

Where: Fleet Pond 
When: Saturday 30th May  

Join us for this very popular free event at Fleet Pond. Drop in anytime between 10am – 2pm.  Many of the stalls are interactive, offering educational activities and hands-on learning including bug hunting, butterfly kite making and pond-dipping. Even though the event is free don’t leave your purse at home as there will be stalls selling various wildlife related items. Refreshments such as tea and coffee will be available along with delicious food available to buy from the Chieftain Explorer Scouts. Car parking is VERY LIMITED at Fleet Pond so we are asking local visitors to leave the car at home and take a leisurely stroll to the site for a full ‘back to nature’ day. The event will be signposted from all access points around the Reserve pointing you in the direction of the stalls, so if you walk through Chestnut Grove or Wellington Avenue we will be easy to find.

FREE Event, Dogs welcome on a lead, suitable for all ages!

Butterfly Walk 10am - 12noon

Where: Hazeley Heath 
When: Sunday 5th July 

 Join Hart’s Biodiversity Officer on a Butterfly Walk around the beautiful Hazeley Heath. Hazeley Heath is a Special Protection Area for its bird life but it is also home to an amazing array of butterflies including the rare Silver Studded Blue. Booking Essential, No Dogs please, the route is along uneven ground so not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
