Hart District Council’s Countryside Service runs a variety of walks and activities throughout the year at various sites within the district. Whether you are interested in wildlife, conservation and your local countryside or maybe you just need an excuse to get outdoors, you will find something for you and your friends and family to enjoy.

All walks are weather dependent and may be altered at short notice. Please note that the walks are due to begin at the times advertised so please arrive a couple of minutes early to avoid disappointment.

Saturday 20th September
Tremendous trees! What? You don’t think so? We will show you just how fascinating trees can be at Elvetham Heath. As well as an introductory overview, topics will include tree origin, environmental uses and reasons for planting. This is a disabled friendly walk where we will be staying on solid man made pathways.

Sunday 12th October - Elvetham Heath
Sunday 19th October - Odiham Common
Join Senior Ranger Steve for a walk around the majestic Odiham Common or Elvetham Heath. This is a beginner’s walk where you will be introduced to the life cycle of fungi and learn how it benefits the environment. Together you will identify fungi species, giving you the opportunity to learn how to use identification charts with Steve on hand to help! £2.50 per person - Payable on the day. Booking Essential.
Thursday 30th October
Come and carve a pumpkin! Then together we will dare to venture for a walk around the eerie Fleet Pond exploring the dark with our lanterns. Wear your scariest costume!!! Suitable for children aged 7+ must be accompanied by an adult.

Pine Cone Wreath Making
Sunday 7th December - Morning and Afternoon sessions
Join rangers Leigh and Katy who will show you how to create your own pine cone Christmas wreath. Please feel free to bring along your own decorations - large ribbons look fantastic. Woodland adventures to collect your own pine cones are encouraged! This activity must be paid for in advance at the leisure centre. Bookings should be made to email@example.com.

Wednesday 10th December
Join the Hart rangers for a leisurely lantern walk through Elvetham Heath Nature Reserve. We will meet just as its getting dark to form a chain of lights at the village pond to start the walk. After a 30-40 minute stroll the Church on the Heath will lead a short carol singing session to round up the evening. Sooth your throats and warm up your fingers afterwards with a hot drink and a cake. These will be available to purchase from the Church on the Heaths coffee shop afterwards. Although some lights will be provided, please bring your own lantern or torch. Parking is free at the Elvetham Heath Community Centre.
